Can I use my Claude Code skills and MCP servers in Woven?

The short answer

Yes, both. Woven's own agent finds skill folders in .claude/skills, .codex/skills, .agents/skills and .woven/skills, in your project and your home folder, and keeps them off until you turn them on in Settings. Its MCP Servers settings page adds local or remote servers and can import the ones Claude Code already uses. Separately, Woven is itself a local MCP server that Claude Code or Codex can drive.

What carries over, and in which direction

Claude Code skills. In Claude Code's docs, a skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file of instructions, kept in your personal .claude/skills folder or a project's .claude/skills folder. Woven's agent scans both places. It reads the folders; it does not promise that a skill written for Claude Code behaves the same, so try one on a small request first.

Skills from Codex and other tools. Woven also scans .codex/skills and .agents/skills, plus its own .woven/skills, again in the project and in your home folder. Your own skills stay off until you enable them. Woven's two bundled skills, analyze-video and extract-brand, are always on.

Your MCP servers, inside Woven's agent. Settings has an MCP Servers page for the servers Woven's own chat can use. Its Add server menu offers Paste config, Add local project, Import from Claude and Custom command. Import from Claude reads ~/.claude.json and a workspace's .mcp.json, which Claude Code's docs name as the homes of its user, local and project servers. Each server and each of its tools has its own switch.

Woven as an MCP server. MCP is an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to outside tools. The woven connector is a stdio MCP server that runs locally and offers 27 tools. Claude Code or Codex starts it on your Mac, next to any servers you already have, and the editing and rendering stay in Woven.

What does not cross over. A connected app has no frame extraction, no contact sheets and no analyze-video playbook, and brand extraction from a website runs in Woven's own agent only. The connector also cannot be set up from chat apps or from cloud or web sessions.

Use your skills, servers and AI app with Woven

Woven Video is an AI video editor for Mac with an agent built in. It connects to the tools you already use in both directions: its agent can load your skills, memory and MCP servers, and your AI app can drive Woven.

  • Your skills, switched on by you. Open Settings, then Skills, and look under Discovered skills. Skills from your folders stay off until you enable them there. The bundled ones are always on: analyze-video breaks down a reference video from a link, and extract-brand pulls a logo, a small color palette and font information from a public website into a brand file for the project.
  • Your MCP servers in Woven's chat. Servers you switch on start automatically, and Woven's agent can call their tools whether chat runs on Woven credits or on ChatGPT Codex.
  • Claude Code as the driver. Once connected, Claude Code can import media, write and read reels, make captions, generate media, render stills to check its work and export. Edits to a reel you have open appear on the timeline as they are written, and if you and the agent change the same field at once, your value stays.
  • Codex and ChatGPT's Work mode too. Codex can use the same connector from your Mac, in Work mode or Codex inside the ChatGPT desktop app, in the Codex CLI or in the IDE extension.
  • Memory you can share. Under Settings, then Advanced, then Memory, Sync new workspaces turns on Claude Code memory sync for new workspaces, and each workspace has its own switch. The agent can save, read and forget notes, and forgetting needs your approval.

Two server lists, not one. Servers you add in Woven are for Woven's own chat. Claude Code keeps its own list, and Woven's setup prompt adds Woven to it as one more server, named woven.

Set up each direction

  1. 1Switch on your skills. In Woven, open Settings, then Skills. Under Discovered skills, turn on the ones you want.
  2. 2Bring in your MCP servers. Open Settings, then MCP Servers, and click Add server. Choose Import from Claude to pick from the servers Claude Code already has, or Paste config to paste a JSON block with mcpServers in it. Then switch on the servers and tools you want chat to use.
  3. 3Share memory if you use Claude Code. Open Settings, then Advanced, then Memory. Turn on Sync new workspaces, or use the switch on a single workspace.
  4. 4Let Claude Code or Codex drive Woven. Under AI apps in Settings, choose your app, click Copy setup prompt and paste it into Claude Code or Codex on your Mac. The prompt registers the woven server and opens Woven for Google sign-in. Woven then tells you how to load its tools: a restart for a desktop app, a new session for a terminal or IDE.

Requires macOS 15 or later and a Woven account signed in on a plan or trial. The connector also needs an AI app that runs commands on your Mac, so Claude's chat and cloud or web sessions cannot use it.
