Can you monetize AI videos on YouTube?
Last updated 2026-10-20
The short answer
Often yes, if each video is your own work. YouTube's monetization policies don't ban AI. They rule out template-made, repetitive or mass-produced content, and the disclosure rules ask you to label realistic AI-generated or altered footage. A video you script, edit and voice yourself, with AI as a helper, sits differently from an automated channel. YouTube decides, so check its current pages.
What YouTube's pages say
Original, not mass-produced. YouTube's channel monetization policies expect content to be your original creation, and not mass-produced, generic, repetitive or manipulative. Reviewers can look at a channel as a whole, including its main theme, its most viewed videos and its newest videos.
Templates and AI. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed its repetitious content policy to inauthentic content and said it covers repetitive or mass-produced content that was already ineligible. Its not-allowed examples include AI-generated content from generic templates that adds no original insight from the creator. The same page treats a series with a distinct storyline or focus per video, or the same intro with a different body, as fine. A separate rule bars channels that use AI-generated personas to give health, legal, financial or political advice as if they were human experts.
AI as a helper. Another YouTube policy says that if you use automated tools or templates, the final video must still show your creative vision and give viewers value. Its allowed examples include using AI to edit your scripts or to generate a unique background visual.
Reused clips are a separate policy. Commentary, clips, compilations and reaction videos fall under the reused content policy, which YouTube says did not change. It asks you to add significant original commentary, substantive changes, or educational or entertainment value.
Disclosure is its own rule. YouTube requires you to disclose AI-generated or altered content that seems realistic, such as a real person appearing to do something they didn't, altered footage of a real event, a realistic scene that never happened, or AI-made music that is the focus of the video. Captions, scripts, titles, thumbnails and minor aesthetic edits don't need it. YouTube says disclosing alone doesn't limit a video's audience or its eligibility to earn, and that consistently not disclosing can bring penalties, including suspension from the Partner Program.
Make each video yourself in Woven Video
Woven Video is a Mac editor built around you making the video. You bring the footage and the point of view, an AI agent does the cutting you ask for, and you fix the result on a timeline. It isn't an autopilot channel, and telling YouTube about AI use stays your job.
- Your edit. You ask for specific cuts, captions and effects, then change anything by hand on the multi-track timeline. Woven doesn't find clips or score them for you, so choosing the moments is up to you.
- Your voice. Woven can't record a voiceover, so record elsewhere and import the file. It can also generate speech from text by chat. If you use a synthetic voice, check it against YouTube's disclosure page.
- Captions from what you said. Captions come from transcribing your speech and are burned into the MP4. YouTube lists caption creation among the things that need no disclosure.
- Generated media is yours to disclose. Woven can generate images, video clips and music by chat. YouTube's page lists AI-made music and realistic AI footage among the things to disclose. Woven doesn't post to YouTube, so you answer the AI use question in YouTube Studio yourself.
- Rights are on you. Woven makes no rights check on music you import or download.
Not advice. This page is not legal or policy advice, and YouTube decides what is eligible for monetization.
A check before you upload
- 1Name what is yours. For each video, write down what only you added: footage, commentary, a script, your voice, the edit.
- 2Vary the substance. Different videos should give viewers different value, not the same template with new words.
- 3Make the edit yourself. In Woven, ask for the cuts you want, then adjust the timeline until it reflects your choices.
- 4Disclose when it applies. In YouTube Studio, open the Attributes section when you upload and answer the AI use question.
Woven is a Mac app for macOS 15 or later, and it works with a signed-in Woven account on a plan or the 3-day free trial. It exports an MP4, and you upload it to YouTube yourself.
FAQ
Not for using AI on its own. YouTube's policies target template-made, repetitive or mass-produced content, and its pages say tools are fine when the final video shows your creative vision and gives viewers value. One rule is AI-specific: channels whose AI personas pose as experts giving health, legal, financial or political advice can't monetize. YouTube makes the call.
It is the July 15, 2025 renaming of the repetitious content policy. YouTube says it covers repetitive or mass-produced content, which was already ineligible to earn. It is separate from the reused content policy.
If the content is realistic and AI-generated or meaningfully altered, yes. You answer the AI use question in the Attributes section of YouTube Studio when you upload. Non-realistic content and minor edits don't need it, and YouTube says disclosing alone doesn't affect eligibility to earn.
YouTube lists caption creation and production help, such as an outline or script, as things that need no disclosure. They still have to be part of an original video.
YouTube's channel monetization policies page doesn't mention faceless channels. It asks whether each video is materially varied and gives creative, educational or other value, and it lists image slideshows, templated storylines or scrolling text with little or no narrative among content that can't earn. A faceless video with its own script, voice and edit is judged on that.
Only if you add something real. YouTube's reused content policy covers commentary, clips, compilations and reactions, and asks for significant original commentary, substantive changes, or educational or entertainment value.
