Social media video sizes

Last updated 2026-10-20

Most short vertical platforms take 9:16, and 1080 by 1920 pixels is the usual frame. Instagram Reels accept 1.91:1 to 9:16, TikTok's ad specs recommend 9:16, YouTube Shorts must be square or vertical, and YouTube long-form is 16:9. Lengths differ more: 3 minutes on YouTube Shorts, 20 on Reels, 15 on a LinkedIn post and 140 seconds on a free X account.

Social media video sizes at a glance

These numbers come from each platform's help center, developer documentation or ads guide. Where a platform publishes no spec for ordinary posts, the row shows its ad spec and says so in the last column.

Vertical video dimensions

Vertical video is a shape, 9:16, and 1080 by 1920 pixels is the usual frame with that shape. Instagram Reels accept anything from 1.91:1 to 9:16, so 9:16 is the tallest. TikTok's ad specs call 9:16 the recommended vertical shape and set a floor of 540 by 960. YouTube counts a video as a Short only when it is square or vertical, and caps Shorts at 1080p. Facebook names only 1080p for reels.

X is the odd one. Its help page lists a maximum of 1920 by 1200, and 1200 by 1900 for portrait, for videos uploaded on the web. A 1080 by 1920 frame is 20 pixels taller than that printed maximum. X does not say what happens to a file that goes over, so test a short clip before you post a long one.

Instagram video dimensions

Instagram's help center puts its video spec on the Reels page: 1.91:1 to 9:16, at least 720 pixels and 30 frames per second. We found no separate size for regular feed video there.

The only feed numbers are in Meta's ads guide. For a feed video ad it asks for 9:16 at 1080 by 1920, up to 60 minutes and 4 GB. Facebook's own Feed video ad spec differs: 4:5 at 1440 by 1800. Do not reuse an Instagram feed ad file for Facebook without checking the shape.

One file for several platforms

A 9:16 file at 1080 by 1920 and 30 frames per second sits inside the published limits of Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Facebook reels and LinkedIn. The 30 fps clears Instagram's 30 minimum, TikTok's 23 to 60, Facebook's recommended 24 to 60, LinkedIn's 10 to 60 and X's 40 maximum.

Two cases need their own export. YouTube long-form wants 16:9. And X's printed portrait maximum is lower than a 1080 by 1920 frame, so a 4:5 or 1:1 version is the safer test there. Length is the other split: a 90-second video is inside every limit in the table, but a 5-minute one is over the 3 minutes every TikTok creator gets and over YouTube Shorts.

Set up each size in Woven

The Format menu in Woven lists Vertical 1080x1920, Square 1080x1080, Horizontal 1920x1080 and Custom…. Export makes an H.264 MP4 whose short side is 1080 or 1440 pixels. Woven does not post for you, so you upload each file yourself.

Ask in chat

  • Set this reel to 9:16 at 30 fps so one file fits most platforms.
  • Switch the canvas to 4:5, 1080 by 1350.
  • Render the vertical version as a 1080p MP4.

Or do it by hand

  1. 1Pick the master shape. Use the Format menu in the toolbar. Vertical 1080x1920 covers Reels, TikTok, Shorts, Facebook and LinkedIn, and Horizontal 1920x1080 covers YouTube long-form. Its label changes to 9:16 or 16:9.
  2. 2Fix the frame rate at 30. Deselect any clip so the Settings page appears, then set Frame rate to 30. Woven offers 24, 25, 30, 50, 60 and 120, and the last three are above X's 40 fps maximum.
  3. 3Add the odd sizes. For a Facebook Feed ad, choose Custom… and enter 1440 by 1800. For a 4:5 post, enter 1080 by 1350. A custom side can be 16 to 4096 pixels.
  4. 4Export each version. Open the Export menu. Pick 1080p for every file except the 1440 by 1800 ad, where 1440p gives that exact size from a 1440-pixel short side. A chat export is always 1080p.
