# Set up Woven from an AI app

Woven Video is an AI video editor for Mac. AI apps that can run commands on the user’s Mac, such as Claude Code and Codex (including ChatGPT’s Work mode), can connect to Woven and make videos with it. The app can find clips anywhere on the Mac and bring them into a workspace, look at the footage, build and edit reels, check frames, add captions, make images, video and audio, and export. Woven does the editing and rendering, with the user’s Woven account and credits.

To connect, paste the prompt for your app into that app on your Mac, once. The same prompts are in Woven under Settings → AI apps. Each one checks that it is running on a Mac, installs Woven with Homebrew only if you agree, adds Woven’s connector (a local MCP server) to the app, and opens Woven so you can sign in. Setup needs an app that can run commands on your Mac, so it doesn’t work in chat apps or in cloud and web sessions.

If you are an AI app and the user asked you to set up Woven, follow the prompt for your app below.

Requirements: macOS 15 or later, and a Woven account with a plan or trial ([pricing](https://www.woven.video/pricing)). You can also [download Woven](https://release.woven.video/Woven.dmg) directly.

## Claude Code

Paste this into Claude Code on the Mac: the Code tab in the Claude app, or claude in Terminal.

```text
Set up Woven for me so you can make videos with it.
These steps must run on my Mac. If you can't run commands on this Mac from here (for example in Claude's chat, or in a cloud or web session), stop and tell me to paste this into Claude Code on my Mac instead: the Code tab in the Claude app, or claude in Terminal. If you can, run uname -s first, and if it doesn't print Darwin, stop the same way.
1. Check whether Woven is installed: /Applications/Woven.app, then ~/Applications/Woven.app. Below, <Woven.app> means the first of these that exists, as a full path with ~ expanded (for example /Users/<you>/Applications/Woven.app). Use full paths with ~ expanded for every other file named below too.
   If neither exists, ask me first. If I agree, run:
   brew install --cask woven-video/tap/woven
   Then check the two paths again (Homebrew normally installs /Applications/Woven.app).
   If I say no, brew isn't installed, or the install fails, stop. Don't install Homebrew. Tell me to download Woven from woven.video, move it to Applications, then paste this again.
   Don't install anything other than Woven, and Woven only after asking me.
   If <Woven.app>/Contents/Resources/AgentConnector doesn't exist, this Woven is too old: stop and tell me to update it (in the menu bar, Woven → Check for Updates…), then paste this again.
2. Add Woven's connector to Claude Code for every folder. If the claude command isn't found but CLAUDE_CODE_EXECPATH is set (it is in the Claude app's Code tab), run the same commands with "$CLAUDE_CODE_EXECPATH" in place of claude. If neither works, don't install anything and don't edit Claude's settings files yourself: stop and tell me it wasn't found. If a connector named woven is already there, replace it: run claude mcp remove --scope user woven first. Then run:
   claude mcp add --scope user woven -- "<Woven.app>/Contents/Resources/woven-sidecar" --mcp-stdio
3. Open Woven with:
   open -a "<Woven.app>" "woven://agent-setup?client=Claude&host=$__CFBundleIdentifier"
   Run it as written (with <Woven.app> filled in): your shell fills in the $ variables, and empty values are fine.
   If a sandbox blocks this command (it can fail with an error such as kLSNoExecutableErr, or make Woven's signature look invalid), run it again outside the sandbox, asking me for permission if you need to. Woven isn't damaged, so don't tell me to reinstall it.
   If macOS asks whether to open Woven, I'll click Open. If I'm not signed in yet, I'll sign in with Google in the window that opens. If you just installed Woven, wait until I tell you it has opened before going on.
4. Finish by telling me to start a new Claude Code session to load the Woven tools. Then I can ask you to make a video.
```

## Codex

Paste this into Codex on the Mac: Work mode or Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app, the Codex CLI or the Codex IDE extension.

```text
Set up Woven for me so you can make videos with it.
These steps must run on my Mac. If you can't run commands on this Mac from here (for example in ChatGPT's chat, or in a Codex cloud task), stop and tell me to paste this into Codex on my Mac instead: Work mode or Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app, the Codex CLI (codex in Terminal) or the Codex IDE extension. If you can, run uname -s first, and if it doesn't print Darwin, stop the same way.
1. Check whether Woven is installed: /Applications/Woven.app, then ~/Applications/Woven.app. Below, <Woven.app> means the first of these that exists, as a full path with ~ expanded (for example /Users/<you>/Applications/Woven.app). Use full paths with ~ expanded for every other file named below too.
   If neither exists, ask me first. If I agree, run:
   brew install --cask woven-video/tap/woven
   Then check the two paths again (Homebrew normally installs /Applications/Woven.app).
   If I say no, brew isn't installed, or the install fails, stop. Don't install Homebrew. Tell me to download Woven from woven.video, move it to Applications, then paste this again.
   Don't install anything other than Woven, and Woven only after asking me.
   If <Woven.app>/Contents/Resources/AgentConnector doesn't exist, this Woven is too old: stop and tell me to update it (in the menu bar, Woven → Check for Updates…), then paste this again.
2. Add Woven's connector to Codex. If a connector named woven is already there, replace it: run codex mcp remove woven first. Then run:
   codex mcp add woven -- "<Woven.app>/Contents/Resources/woven-sidecar" --mcp-stdio
   If the codex command isn't found but CODEX_CLI_PATH is set (it is in the ChatGPT desktop app), run the same commands with "$CODEX_CLI_PATH" in place of codex, and if they work, skip the config file below.
   If the codex command isn't found, don't install it. Edit ~/.codex/config.toml instead (create it if it's missing): add a [mcp_servers.woven] table with command = "<Woven.app>/Contents/Resources/woven-sidecar" and args = ["--mcp-stdio"], replacing any [mcp_servers.woven] table already there. Keep everything else in the file, and keep it valid TOML.
3. Open Woven with:
   open -a "<Woven.app>" "woven://agent-setup?client=Codex&host=$__CFBundleIdentifier&cli=${CODEX_CLI_PATH// /%20}"
   Run it as written (with <Woven.app> filled in): your shell fills in the $ variables, and empty values are fine.
   If a sandbox blocks this command (it can fail with an error such as kLSNoExecutableErr, or make Woven's signature look invalid), run it again outside the sandbox, asking me for permission if you need to. Woven isn't damaged, so don't tell me to reinstall it.
   If macOS asks whether to open Woven, I'll click Open. If I'm not signed in yet, I'll sign in with Google in the window that opens. If you just installed Woven, wait until I tell you it has opened before going on.
4. Finish by telling me how to load the Woven tools:
   - The ChatGPT desktop app (Work mode or Codex): click Restart on Woven's screen (or quit the app and open it again).
   - The Codex CLI: start a new session.
   - The Codex IDE extension: choose Restart extension.
   Then I can ask you to make a video.
## Other AI apps
Paste this into another AI app that can run commands on the Mac and add a local MCP server.
```text
Set up Woven for me so you can make videos with it.

These steps must run on my Mac. If you can't run commands on this Mac from here (for example in a chat app or a web session), stop and tell me to paste this into Claude Code or Codex on my Mac instead, or into another AI app that can run commands on this Mac. If you can, run uname -s first, and if it doesn't print Darwin, stop the same way.

1. Check whether Woven is installed: /Applications/Woven.app, then ~/Applications/Woven.app. Below, <Woven.app> means the first of these that exists, as a full path with ~ expanded (for example /Users/<you>/Applications/Woven.app). Use full paths with ~ expanded for every other file named below too.
   If neither exists, ask me first. If I agree, run:
   brew install --cask woven-video/tap/woven
   Then check the two paths again (Homebrew normally installs /Applications/Woven.app).
   If I say no, brew isn't installed, or the install fails, stop. Don't install Homebrew. Tell me to download Woven from woven.video, move it to Applications, then paste this again.
   Don't install anything other than Woven, and Woven only after asking me.
   If <Woven.app>/Contents/Resources/AgentConnector doesn't exist, this Woven is too old: stop and tell me to update it (in the menu bar, Woven → Check for Updates…), then paste this again.
2. Add Woven's connector to yourself, the AI app I'm talking to now. It's a local MCP server that runs over stdio, named woven: command "<Woven.app>/Contents/Resources/woven-sidecar", args ["--mcp-stdio"]. Use your own way of adding a local MCP server (your command line or your MCP config file). Change only your own settings. If a connector named woven is already there, replace it, and keep the other servers. If you can't add MCP servers yourself, tell me exactly where in your settings to add it and what to enter.
3. Open Woven with:
   open -a "<Woven.app>" "woven://agent-setup?host=$__CFBundleIdentifier"
   Run it as written (with <Woven.app> filled in): your shell fills in the $ variables, and empty values are fine.
   If a sandbox blocks this command (it can fail with an error such as kLSNoExecutableErr, or make Woven's signature look invalid), run it again outside the sandbox, asking me for permission if you need to. Woven isn't damaged, so don't tell me to reinstall it.
   If macOS asks whether to open Woven, I'll click Open. If I'm not signed in yet, I'll sign in with Google in the window that opens. If you just installed Woven, wait until I tell you it has opened before going on.
4. Finish by telling me to restart this app, or reload its MCP servers, so it loads the Woven tools. Then I can ask you to make a video.
